What to watch for: The fruit becoming red and ripe.
The Raspberry, also known as the Red Raspberry, is commonly found throughout the province on deforested land,
rocky ground and along roadsides. It has tall stems, 1-2 m high, with a few
small prickles. The serrated leaves
are divided into three to five leaflets that are white underneath. The small
flowers are greenish-white and are
arranged in little clusters. The
flowers bloom in July and the familiar
red fruit appears by August. The berries fall to the ground
when they are ripe and crumble
easily when touched. The Raspberry
is a food source for many birds,
animals and humans. Just remember never eat a berry that you cannot
positively identify!
