Canada Goose - migrating north | Branta canadensis
Spring: All Habitats : Animals

What to look and listen for:
A "V" formation flying north and loud honking. Start looking and listening in March.

While most Canada Geese fly south for the winter, some remain in Nova Scotia for the winter. They are one of our easiest birds to identify. They are very large reaching two or three times the size of the ducks they hang out with! The head and neck are black but the throat and cheeks are white. The back and wings are greyish brown while the underparts are white with grey markings. The legs, bill and tail are black.
