What to watch for: The pretty star-like flower opening up.
This aptly named forest dweller is common throughout the province. There is a single erect stem, 10-20 cm tall, at the end of which are the leaves. There are usually five to nine leaves, which are long, pointed and arranged in a circular pattern. The flowers, which bloom from May to August, are mounted on slim stalks that grow from the tip of the stem and have oval or triangular petals. The Starflower's distinctive appearance makes it easy to identify.
