What to watch for:
The snapdragon-like flowers appearing.

This oddly named herb is very common around towns and along roads in Nova Scotia. It has a short stem, about 80 cm tall, with lots of narrow, light-green leaves. At the top of the stem is a crowded cluster of yellow flowers, which bloom from July to August. The flowers have an orange-coloured swelling near the base of the lower petals and look a bit like the garden flower called the snapdragon.

Did you know? ... Butter-and-eggs used to be considered the source for a good skin lotion and that its juice, mixed with milk, made a good fly-poison.
